Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities is the NZ Government’s housing agency with two key roles:
Acting under the Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities Act 2019 and the Urban Development Act 2020, Kāinga Ora has a commitment to delivering transformational urban development, while leading and promoting good urban design.
We are focused on creating sustainable, inclusive and thriving communities, connecting a wide range of homes with jobs, transport, open spaces and the facilities needed.
Of course, we don’t do this alone. We collaborate and partner with councils, government agencies, local government, Māori and mana whenua, infrastructure providers, private developers, community housing providers and more to increase housing supply throughout Aotearoa, while helping more people into warm, dry, and safe homes.

Waka Kotahi is developing a land transport system for Aotearoa New Zealand that will help everyone get the most out of life.
We are working in partnership with local government and others to develop and regulate the transport system to be safe, accessible and easy to use - a transport system that connects people, places and products for a thriving Aotearoa.
We’re helping plan communities to ensure these are great places to live and providing better access to public transport and supporting walking and cycling to make it easy for people to get around. Well-planned transport investment delivers social, economic and environmental benefits, enabling everyone to easily access jobs, schools, health facilities and essential services.
By listening to our customers, embracing new technology and responding to change, we’re delivering a transport system that reduces deaths and serious injuries, our impact on the environment, and that meets the needs of tomorrow.
