He has worked in various built environment roles over the last 35 years; as a residential developer, a registered architect, before working at Wellington City Council for 10 years becoming Chief Urban Designer. New challenges took him into private practice and then working for 4 ½ years at Auckland Council. He has provided advise to Central Government on medium density housing and the importance of design. He relishes having returned to the Wellington context and being part of the team that is engaged with transformational change across the city.
He studied urban design at Oxford Brookes University in the UK and as an urban designer he has worked in the full gambit of projects that collectively deliver the urban environment. He has recently led the delivery of the strategic component of the Green Network Plan with the purpose of supporting regenerative urbanism in Wellington’s central city. The greening of the city is a critical component of greater residential density done well.
