Focusing on the themes relevant to the conference, our Principal Co-sponsors Waka Kotahi and Kāinga Ora are hosting a number of study tours on the afternoon prior to the conference, 26th April 2023. Led by industry professionals who will share their knowledge and expertise throughout the tour, there are several options to choose from. Group sizes will be limited, so ensure you reserve your spot when you register.
Choose from one of the following tours:
Cycle Tour - Connectivity / Regeneration
Depart: 2:00pm at the Viaduct
Duration: 2 hour 30 minutes
Capacity: Maximum 15 people
This tour, using e-bikes and scooters provided by Beam, will be travelling along the Northwestern Cycleway. This route is one of Auckland's most well-known and busiest cycleways. You will start at the Viaduct at 2:00pm travelling along the iconic pink pathway with stops and discussions about current and future developments, and network improvements. Stops will be made at Waterview, Waterview North, Unitec and Karangahape Road. Representatives from Kāinga Ora and MHUD will provide on-site information at some locations. This 2 hour and 30 minute tour will finish at Cordis Hotel and is 15 kms in length.
(This tour is not suitable for anyone that requires wheelchair access or mobility, hearing, sight impaired. It will be cancelled if there is wet weather.)
Walking Tour - City Centre Masterplan and Highlights
Depart: 2:30pm at Cordis Hotel
Duration: 2 hours
Capacity: Maximum 20 people (2 groups of 10)
This tour is recommended for non-Aucklanders, starting at Cordis Hotel at 2:30pm. This tour will look at major projects underway in Auckland city centre. The tour will include Karangahape Road Enhancements, Queen Street, Britomart, Victoria Street Linear Park, Te Komititanga and Quay Street. It will also include a stop outside the Kāinga Ora flagship Greys Avenue development. The walk from Cordis Hotel to Quay Street is approximately 2.5km and will finish at Britomart at 4:30pm.
(This tour is suitable for wheelchair users, noting there will be some hills to negotiate. It will be cancelled if the weather is too wet.)
Depart: 3:00pm at Cordis Hotel
Duration: 1.5 hours
Capacity: Maximum 10 people
Starting at Cordis Hotel at 3:00pm. This tour will touch on the highlights of the Auckland city centre tour. You will walk via Karangahape Road to the Kāinga Ora flagship Greys Avenue development. Here we will don PPE gear to take a look inside at this fresh approach to supported inner city living. You will walk back via Queen Street and finish at Cordis at 4:30pm.
(This tour is not suitable for anyone that requires wheelchair access or is mobility impaired. Guests will need to wear flat, closed toe sensible shoes as a requirement of entry to the build site. Start and finish locations will differ if it is wet weather but is otherwise wet weather appropriate)
Coach Tour - Transit Orientated Development / Integration
Depart: 2:00pm at Cordis Hotel
Duration: 3 hours
Capacity: Maximum 30 people
This tour will start at Cordis at 2:00pm and will look at transport investments, including Maungawhau/Mt Eden station, New Lynn rail/bus interchange and associated Transit-Oriented Development (and surrounds), and the Kāinga Ora large-scale Roskill Development. Eke Panuku and Link Alliance will talk about plans and opportunities at Maungawhau Mt Eden station. We will have experts on hand to talk about the New Lynn Station TOD - covering what was done well, the challenges and opportunities. In Roskill a Kāinga Ora representative will walk and talk you through Freeland Reserve’s infrastructure and amenity upgrade and its performance in recent weather events. It will be a round trip finishing at Cordis at 4:50pm.

Coach Tour - Northern Busway / Northwest
Depart: 2:00pm at Cordis Hotel
Duration: 3 hours
Capacity: Maximum 30 people
This coach tour, starting at Cordis at 2:00pm will head over Auckland Harbour Bridge to visit the Kāinga Ora large-scale Northcote Development. A Kāinga Ora representative will give a tour of this transformative development. Following a stop at Smales Farm busway station you will then head west to Hobsonville Point, a large-scale, medium density market development. Widely seen as an exemplary development. Hobsonville is now being delivered by Kāinga Ora. From the Hobsonville Wharf you will catch the ferry back to Auckland city centre. This tour explores development outcomes around a range of public transport modes. Challenges and opportunities, and for such development generally, will be key points of discussion.
